Surviving Cold and Flu Season

As we enter flu season, it is important to consider not only your health but also the health of your family, friends, and those around you. There are a few things you can do to ensure that you are prepared for the upcoming season.

1. Get Your Flu Shot

Getting your flu shot is the best way to protect yourself against sickness. When you get your flu shot, you are not only helping yourself, but you are also reducing the burden on other healthcare workers and protecting the individuals around you. If you want to know more, feel free to take a look at the blog post by the CDC: Benefits of the Flu Vaccine

2. Know the Symptoms

People with the flu may experience a fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and fatigue. These symptoms can often be mistaken for a common cold, but there are differences. Flu symptoms tend to come on abruptly, while cold symptoms develop gradually. Additionally, experiencing chills and a headache is common with the flu, but rare with a cold. It’s also important to know the emergency warning signs of flu complications, such as shortness of breath, chest or abdominal pain, not urinating, and seizures.

3. Take Precautions

Getting your flu shot isn’t the only way to protect yourself. Taking active precautions to avoid spreading germs is also important. This includes washing your hands, refraining from touching your face, and staying away from those experiencing symptoms. If you feel unwell, stay home or wear a mask, especially if you’re around children or immunocompromised individuals.
